Purpose To maintain and repair electrical systems to the manufacturer's specification and the standards required by VOSA for all Company vehicles.
Scope This includes single and double deck buses, coaches, articulated buses and company vans. Includes CCTV, air/conditioning, ramps, electronic gearboxes, electronic engine management systems and all other electrical components.
Job Description
To undertake routine preventative maintenance in accordance with Company maintenance schedules.
To undertake diagnostic investigations on reported vehicle defects using laptops, multi-meters and other test equipment and to identify faults.
To undertake mechanical and bodywork tasks as necessary in order to facilitate electrical repairs.
Where practical to effect repairs and to test ensuring repairs have been effective. Where appropriate to liaise with line manager on the need for external specialist advice.
To liaise with Storekeeper on the availability of necessary parts and components.
To keep abreast of technical developments and new equipment introduced.
To assist in the technical training of electrician apprentices.
Any other reasonable duties as directed by management that lies within the scope of the jobholder's responsibilities.
Person Specification
The post holder should have knowledge of
Automotive electrical systems, circuit diagrams and components (preferably gained within the PCV/HGV industries)
An understanding of routine maintenance schedules
An understanding of the standards required by VOSA, TfL and the Department of Transport.
Basic mechanical engineering
Bus bodywork construction
Safe working practices
The post holder should have the following skills

The post holder should have the ability to gain a PCV licence.
